Valuable Electricity from Industrial Waste Heat
Paper mills, oil and gas refineries, cement factories, incinerators, chemical plants, glass plants and metal refineries – all can benefit from the Ormat Recovered Energy Generation (REG) solutions, which generate a reliable,
cost-effective source of electricity by capturing residual heat from existing operations.
Even the most efficient cascading processes lose some heat, due to its relatively low temperature. Since there is no economical way to store or export it, this heat is usually wasted. With Ormat's REG solutions, that heat can be transformed into a valuable asset, which accelerates financial turnover by maximizing energy efficiency and fossil fuel savings.
The ORMAT® Energy Converter (OEC) has converted heat sources into electricity for over 40 years through proprietary implementation of the Organic Rankine Cycle. Hot liquids such as water, oils and chemicals, as well as condensing vapors such as steam and hydrocarbons ranging in temperature – all are viable forms of unused process heat that can power the OEC. Hot gases can also be used. The OEC is non-polluting, and in some cases, even removes pollution sources, such as steam, from the atmosphere.
