POSITION SUMMARY
Assist in acquisition, QA/QC, processing, modeling, interpretation, and management of geophysical data as directed by Staff Geophysicist, Project Managers, or the Exploration/Development Manager. Receive training on field work best practices and data acquisition techniques with the goal of leading geophysical surveys at geothermal exploration and development projects in Nevada.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist with magnetotelluric (MT) geophysical field work in remote areas of Nevada for the purpose of imaging and characterizing geothermal prospects.
- Upon satisfactory training, lead geophysical surveys with minimal supervision.
- Design and execute daily survey plans including logistics, route planning, permit compliance, data management and field safety.
- Responsible for QA/QC, processing, and modeling of magnetotelluric data using commercial software.
- Responsible for generating maps, cross sections, figures, memos and/or presentations that aid in interpretation of geophysical data.
- Work with Staff Geophysicist and Project Geologist to integrate geophysical interpretation into existing conceptual model(s).
- Maintain geophysical equipment.
- Must be able to operate a 4WD vehicle in a safe manner in both on and off-road conditions
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
- Organize and catalog legacy geophysical datasets and reports.
- Aid field operations as needed.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED
- Working on or recently completed a bachelor’s degree in geologic sciences or geophysics, or alternatively, a physics or engineering degree with a relevant focus.
- Experience doing remote and/or self-guided field work is strongly favorable.
- Previous work with electronic equipment or sensors favorable but not required.
- Must be able to read, write and speak English at a level which will permit the employee to accurately understand and communicate information to perform the job duties safely and efficiently
- Must possess at any time a valid driver’s license with a driving record acceptable to Ormat’s auto insurance carrier
- Must be able to use and acquire knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation. Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, Power Point and use of the Internet.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to travel and work in remote field locations and extremes of weather
- Ability to travel on foot over rough and/or steep terrain
- Ability to lift and move 50 lbs. on an occasional basis
- Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment
- Travel approximately 50% of the time
